The first thing in recording good quality music starts with good equipment. The mic you choose should be a condenser mic. If its not warm enough you will need a mic pre- amp. The sound card you choose is also important. For instance, I run my mic straight in to my digi design my box. Always record you music flat, for mixing purposes. Some good programs to use for recording are, pro tools, cubase, nuendo, reaper, and acid. I prefer to use any of the first three because of my experience with them.
